The guys at touchmods.net have been busy readying a VoIP app for the iPod touch, and they have just released a video of the first successful call made using their software. Apparently, the app will be made available to the masses on New Year's Day, so we are holding our breath. Check out the video to see what all the fuss is about. (We've put up the second video the team released, mostly because it was more informative, but if you desperately want to see the first, hit the link after the jump).

If you missed it, we already told you about the microphone that has been prepared for the iPod touch, which can be preordered now from touchmods directly. Other than that, it's a waiting game for the app to drop. We have a feeling Apple won't be best pleased, we also have a feeling firmware 1.1.3 may cause a little more work for our buddies at touchmods.net, but we believe in them. As ever, we'll keep you in tune with any developments. [touchmods.net]

Not to say it's actually easy to get your hands on the rumored 1.1.3 firmware at this point, but in the event that you do, proceed with caution. Nate True, the guy that brought us a video walkthrough of the supposedly leaked goods, is reporting that he can't seem to downgrade to 1.1.1 or 1.1.2 after performing the install. Locked phones show an "Incorrect SIM" error -- a problem unlockers of yore are all too familiar with -- while previously unlocked phones can't be upgraded to 1.1.3 at all. Let's be honest, though: if you somehow managed to score a copy of 1.1.3, is that really going to stop you from going for it?

This continuing cat and mouse game reminds me of radar detectors. I recall when radar detectors first came out, and something akin to an arms race broke out between authorities and lead-footed civilians to stay one step ahead of each other. I'm fairly certain that's a race that won't end until modern transportation takes some strange turn. So it is with the iPhone unlock strategies, and according to Gizmodo the 1.1.3 firmware update will once again break unlocks and third-party applications. They offer some fairly convincing reasons to believe that they've got the real scoop. I'm buying it.

Want to put a happy spin on this? Just be thankful that Apple doesn't allow the iPhone-hacking geniuses much idle time, lest some of them find other ways of showing their talent.

Just yesterday we saw some pics of what was being touted as an iPhone running the as-yet-unannounced 1.1.3 firmware version, and now we've got word of some video proof from a pretty reliable source. Nate True, all-around modder and creator of the Walluminate light-up wallet, has a short vid up on his cre.ations.net site that claims to depict that handy home page icon rearrangement feature -- you know, the one that suggests an SDK to make use of all the new slots. Go on, check out the short clip after the break.

[Thanks, Marcus S.]

If you bricked your iPhone with a previous firmware upgrade and you haven't been able to bring it back from limbo, you may be wondering what to do with it. Since it seems that there are people trying to help Dev Team with privileged information to keep Installer.app and the unlocking working with the next update, we were wondering what to do to help the iPhone Dev Team other than donations. Brian came up with a great idea: donate your dead iPhone to them, so they can use them as test units to do weird things to them. So if you have a bricked iPhone, or know anyone who has:
